Impulse

Romans 7:23 “but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me.”

How many times have we acted impulsively and allowed our habits and behaviors to lead us the wrong path. One of the meanings of “impulse” that I like is the following: “a sudden desire to do something, without thinking about the consequences.” When we act; are we acting in faith according to God’s plan for us or, are we motivated by our own desires to bring an outcome and end up with sin in our lives. In the two previous verses in Romans (Romans 7:21-22) it is written that “21 So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22For in my inner being I delight in God’s law;”

Today, ask God to help you resist your natural tendencies that lead to sin. It is not easy but it is indispensable. Our willpower is not sufficient to quench our instinctive impulse toward sin–we need God’s grace.
